Delhi, first explore stroll

Well, besides experiencing my first earthquake, I also learned a few basic India 101 travel tips on my brief six block walk near the hotel in Delhi:
1. Cameras, and eye glasses, stored in AC fog up immediately in monsoon season, adding a beautiful, dreamy quality to every photo snapped, and leaving the photographer unable to even see the stairs exiting the hotel, no matter how much the ubiquitous, highly uniformed door guard is trying to help while also not touching you or speaking English!
2. The public world is still predominantly male. The hotel cafe was filled each meal & I was one of only three women. Men are polite...and deferential...and also seem a bit perplexed why I am there, journalling, sipping chai. (This has continued in Kolkatta, too...my walk to the American Center is about ten minutes and I passed only four women amongst the hundreds of men. Will take a while to become accustomed to that.)
3. Monsoon season is beyond variable...had I flown in 24 hours later I would've been spared the rare experience of feeling the entire four stories below me quiver and sway, invoking uncomfortable images of bamboo supported building structures and gaps inches wide between cinder blocks I'd seen in last trips, but would've also been locked into a water logged capital where feet of rain blocked all traffic for miles of roads...so much for hours of planning to select the perfect flight...it's all just kismet!
